
Gov. Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan
Edwin Marino C. Ongchuan, is the 10th Governor of the Province of Northern Samar currently serving his second term.
Prior to being governor, he was a member of the 17th Congress serving as Representative of the 2nd Legislative District of Northern Samar. He is the son of the late former Congressman Emil L. Ong and Mrs. Marietta Co. He is a loving husband to his wife Ble and a doting father to their three children.
He is a devout Catholic having finished his Elementary and Secondary Education in the Jesuit-run Xavier School in Greenhills. He took up Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of the Philippines, in Diliman.
Before he joined Politics, he was the Sales Manager of P.I. Hardware & Mill Supply, Inc, which is into Importation, Retail and Wholesale of Structural Steel Products. He is also the proprietor of Q Phil Products International, a food-manufacturing and -export company.
As the provincial head, he is anchoring his programs and projects under the Development Agenda Padayon nga KAUSWAGAN or Sustained PROGRESS. Through innovative programs and by streamlining government functions under the Cluster Approach to Development, he was able to significantly reduce the poverty incidence of the Northern Samar from a high of 51.5% in 2015 to 23.1% in 2021.
Under his leadership as a champion of peace and development, the number of drug-cleared barangays in the province has substantially increased and the CTG-affected barangays are becoming less and less. By promoting economic dynamism and ensuring that the benefits of progress and development trickle-down to the poorest and far-flung communities, Governor Edwin Ongchuan and the provincial government envisions a resilient, progressive and happy life for all Nortehanons.
